Typhlo and Tactus Competition

Tactile Book Competition

ClearVision's tactile picture books are incredibly special. We're proud to be part of the Typhlo and Tactus group: an organisation which exists to support tactile book creators and encourage the production and use of tactile picture books across the world. More tactile books for everyone!
Every two years Typhlo and Tactus hold the world's largest competition for tactile book creators. ClearVision hosts the UK judging round, and sit on the international judging committee. Each country can send up to five books. At the last competition, held in Italy in 2022, the winner was the UK's Marion Duffy, with her incredible book 'ODD', which gave the reader a series of tasks, cleverly designed so that blind and sighted readers had exactly the same level of challenge. Second prize went to the UK too, to the Faversham Social Sewing group's extremely funny book You Choose, based on the game "would you rather...".

This year's international competition was held in Lublin, Poland. A team of young judges selected four UK entries for the international competition: Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Your Help Is Needed, Susie the Snake and Sea Creatures: Facts and Fun. After three days of intense judging, Your Help is Needed was awarded the special category prize for the "Best Book With An Educational Message". It tells, in a fun, interactive way, about how readers can do their part in protecting the planet and combatting climate change.

The Typhlo and Tactus competition is free to enter and anyone can put a book forward- whether it's their first or their fiftieth! To get started on making a tactile book, see guidance on our Making Books page, which opens in a new tab.
