Books with Picture Descriptions

Some ClearVision books have been especially adapted for braille-reading adults to share with sighted children, and for confident young readers to share with their younger siblings. As well as the text of the story in braille, these have added picture descriptions in braille and braille labels so you can point out items of interest in the picture to a sighted child. We also have very simple board books with braille labels so that adults can share them with sighted babies and toddlers, including ones to help young children learn concepts such as colours and shapes. You'll find these on our catalogue listed as "Adult Braille Reader, Sighted Child" (the link here will take you directly to the page on the catalogue in a new tab). Braille-reading adults are, of course, welcome to borrow books from the other categories, such as Story Books- and most borrow these once their children are older- but these don't have picture descriptions.

Why don’t all our books have picture descriptions? We appreciate the importance of pictures to blind children (hence our tactile image books!) but adding picture descriptions to all our books wouldn’t be practical. In many cases the language used to describe the pictures would be above the reading level of the child using the book.
