Free tactile book making workshops!

Could you create a picture book for a child who can’t see pictures?

Tactile picture books are ones in which all the illustrations are specially designed to be explored by touch. They’re a wonderful way for children with little or no sight to enjoy picture books. The ClearVision Project is a charity. We run a postal lending library of tactile picture books, loaning them all across the UK.

These incredible books are made by volunteers. We hope you’d like to take up the challenge to help more children who are blind or partially sighted enjoy reading. It’s an interesting, creative way to use your stitching or collage skills!

We’re holding free online workshops on the following dates:
- Wednesday 11th November 6-8pm
- Thursday 27th November 7-9pm
- Monday 4th December 12-2pm.
- Wednesday 14th January 4-6pm
- Thursday 29th January 4-6pm
- Wednesday 11th February 4-6pm

They’re all the same, so just come to one! Email alex@clearvisionproject.org to book a place; bookings close 48 hours before each session. In the meantime, check out the guidance on our Making Books page, which opens in a new tab, and our videos on YouTube.

Will You Win?!
There’s also a big international tactile book competition coming up- Typhlo And Tactus 2026. The ClearVision Project will be holding the UK judging round in July, with 5 shortlisted books going on to international judging in Prague in October. It’s free to enter, anyone can take part and there are prizes! In previous years we’ve had great entries from crafters, teachers, artists, students, visual-impairment specialists and school children. For more about the competition see the our website page about Typhlo And Tactus, which opens in a new tab.
