Awesome Ridgeway Ride
What do children usually do in the school holidays? Get out the Lego? Visit friends? Perhaps enjoy a trip to the seaside?
There can't be many who would undertake a three-day cycle ride through mud and rain along one of the UK's longest ancient paths to benefit other children, but that's exactly what seven year old Nate from Oxfordshire did.
Inspired by his Dad's marathon efforts in aid of ClearVision last spring, Nate planned, trained and then rode 87 miles (140km) from near Avebury in Wiltshire to Ivanhoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire. The Ridgeway is an ancient chalk road, used for more than 5000 years and Nate was following in the footsteps of Bronze-age people, Romans, Saxons and invading Vikings. It's made of chalk, potholed, incredibly muddy and slippery when wet- Nate had to be rescued from more than one enormous puddle by his support crew (Dad Dave, running along behind)- but kept going, knowing he was raising money to help children with sight impairment enjoy stories. We'd like to thank Nate (and his support team) for his incredible energy, effort and enthusiasm in fundraising for ClearVision.
If you'd like to sponsor Nate and make his ride even more worthwhile, you can do so via our donation portal.
